On November 1, 2014 Amber Lea Place Retirement Home in Brantford celebrated 25-years of quality service in the retirement industry since opening its doors in November 1989.
According to home administrator, Ruby Toor, the 51- suite residence strives on a “resident first” philosophy which is Amber Lea’s key to success. Toor says “naturally great service starts with great staff, many of whom have been employees for over 10 years.”
Amber Lea staff is responsible for some of the much loved traditions at the home such as the annual Christmas part and yearly summer barbeque. Each year over 250 guests attend both events including family, friends and members of the community. “Our residents love these events” says Toor. “We provide great food and live entertainment and it gives residents a chance to unwind and enjoy time with their loved ones” said Toor.
Famous for its excellent meals and baked goods, Amber Lea’s staff ensures treats are on hand on a daily basis and accommodate special needs and tastes. “A resident favourite is the Rice Krispies! A fresh batch is prepared daily,” said Toor who encourages visitors to stop by for a taste test.
On a day-to –day basis new and long-standing residents of the home enjoy activities unique to Amber Lea Place such as:
- Buddy system pairing current residents with new residents encouraging them to get involved in daily activities such as bowling, bingo nights and movie nights
- The SKIP program- Seniors Kids Intergenerational Program- which brings school age children into the home to interact with residents
- Structured exercise program facilitated by OTA/PTA certified activity director Keith Barrett
