At 90 years old, Florence Keeler is a lovely, charitable spirit who has captured the attention of the residence and staff and Regency Manor Retirement Lving and Long term Care.
Florence has been dedicated to various charity organizations in Port Hope and surrounding areas, but the Knitting Guild is holds a significant place in her heart, The Knitting Guild consists of a knitting lovers who come together to knit hats, sweaters, booties and mittens for babies in the NICU at local hospitals. Florence’s signature piece is a comfort doll, that she created to be shipped to young under-privileged children across the world. The comfort doll’s creation was prompted by an article in the local newspaper asking locals to send small toys and stuffed animals to children in Afghanistan.
When asked why she spends her time knitting for children, Florence says she’s simply enjoys knitting and having something to do because it feels good to help people. Also, if you ask Keeler if these dolls are worth anything. She just laughs and says, “No, it is just a few pieces of yearn and it’s the purpose of it that matters the most. It is about helping people.”
