As you begin the search for a retirement home for yourself or a loved one, it can seem like a very daunting process. Here are a few tips that we’ve gathered that could help you get started.
- Determine what is important to you. What are the amenities, care services, accommodation options and activities you are looking for? What community do you want to live in?
- Search for retirement homes in your chosen community. Our Home Finder is a good place to start. You can also ask family and friends for recommendations.
- Pick a few homes and give them a call. Set up a time to take a tour, sample the food and ask questions. Don’t be afraid to discuss how the home may be able to accommodate any services you anticipate needing down the road. Our checklist is a good resource to bring along; we also recommend bringing a family member or friend.
