Current Advocacy Priorities
We believe that seniors should decide how and where they receive their care services, including in a retirement community. We are currently working on the policy idea of a seniors’ monthly tax credit (similar to Québec) that will empower seniors with greater choice, help with affordability of those choices, and alleviate pressure on the strained public healthcare system.
By 2050, the 85-and-older population in Canada could reach more than 2.7 million people. To ensure our sector can keep up with this demand, we are focused on our health and human resources strategy that proposes long-term and short-term solutions to attract and retain future talent. With support and collaboration from our provincial counterparts across the country, we have launched a national senior living association to advocate for seniors’ issues across Canada. Visit the Canadian Senior Living Association’s website here.
There is a need to develop a better model of home care for seniors living in retirement homes. We are working with the government to identify and address the ongoing issues with home care.
